Focus On....Buttons!

For me, buttons are one of those things that were really a big embellishment many years ago, then they sort of faded away....but recently I've seen a resurgence of these beautiful embellishments!  More and more I see them used on layouts and off the page projects!  And not just a scattered button here or there but loads of them!  Take for example this beautiful framed decor project done by our very talented design team member Patti!  She created this incredibly cute tree using Bo Bunny Buttons!...

Chipboard Welcome Home collection

Aren't these projects beautiful?!  And Bo Bunny has GORGEOUS buttons coordinated for each of their amazing paper collections, so you'll always have the right button embellishment to go with a project!

TIP:  Here is a little tip about using buttons on a project!  Take the time to either stitch it on the project/page or use some twine or string in the button holes.  It goes a long way to adding a beautiful 'finished' look to your project!  Believe me, I've tried both ways and always find I like the look a hundred times better when I take the time to add the twine or thread!

Have you tried using buttons on your projects recently?  Give it a go, you'll find your pages taking on a new and fun look to them! xo

Christmas Decor using a Mini Album

Happy Wednesday Bo Bunny fans!  Juliana here to share some hand made Christmas decor using a mini album.  Yes, you read correctly, I used a mini album to create some festive Christmas decor.  I used the new Blitzen Mini Album to create five decorative pieces that can be hung anywhere in your home, including on your Christmas tree. They could also easily be strung on a ribbon and used as a banner on your mantle.

I choose five of the chipboard pages from the Blitzen Mini Album to create them.  I used the pre-printed image on some of them to inspire my decoration and embellishment.

Obviously, it would have been a lot faster to use these images as they were and just dress them up a bit with some glitter and jewels.  I however, wanted to do more with my hands, so I decided to step it up a bit.  I used various chipboard pieces from the Blitzen 12 x 12 Chipboard to layer and decorate each piece.

I dressed each on up a bit using pearl pen, jewels, ink, crackle paint, glitter glue and ribbon.

I used my Cricut to die cut shapes such as the holly leaves on the Two Turtle Doves piece, the snowflake on the Blitzen piece and the poinsettia on the Stocking piece. I also used various punches to create decorative borders on several of them.

Bo Bunny Supplies:
Blitzen 6 x 6 paper pad, 12 x 12 Chipboard, Buttons, Jewels, Cardstock Stickers, and Mini Album

I hope you enjoyed this series of Christmas decor pieces and that you found them inspiring as you create some fun Christmas decor for your home this holiday season!

Blitzen Mini Album

Have you checked out the Bo Bunny Mini Albums?

They are so terrific!  The different shapes of them make them so fun and I LOVE that they are ready to decorate!!  Isn't it great to start with perfectly coordinated minis that are ready to decorate?

GOTTA LOVE THAT!

I chose to use the Blitzen Album for these precious pictures of a trip to Santa's Wonderland.

There are a lot of pages in this mini, so I didn't do close-ups.  I'll be sharing some tips after each of the pages though, so just keep scrolling along.

Tips:
To make the scalloped border stickers follow the curve of the tree, I just used powder to get rid of the sticky backing and then gave a little pinch in the center of each scallop.
Attaching ric rac and trim is easy when you use the right glue!  Use Fabri-Tac by Beacon to attach.  It dries clear and it dries fast!

Tip:
You can see from this picture that there are a LOT of things going on with this album.  Sometimes, using a lot of layers, trims, bows and pop dots can make your album a bit difficult to handle and turn correctly.  If that is the case, the fix is simple!  Just get a larger ring to use at the top.

Tip:
To get the nice white outline on this page, I first used a white Souffle Pen and then added a thin line of glitter glue right over the top.

Tip:
Use foam dots to get the layers on the flower.  I cut and extra flower to give myself 3 layers.  The poinsettias are included in the awesome Noteworthy package.
I only put in four holes, one at each corner, for the black floss border.  Just use tape on the back to keep everything flat.

Tip:
Think about layering similar images.  I really liked how adding the chipboard reindeer using foam dots added interest to this page.  Using foam dots also allowed me to layer the twine and flourish chipboard more easily.

Tips:
Use Souflee and Glaze pens to draw on stitches.  I also backe the large tag with patterned paper, so it would look nice when you flip to the next page.
Mix up letter stickers with rub-ons to easily tell the story.

Tip:
To make the Blitzen letter stickers show better on the striped background, I stuck them to some lightly inked chipboard letter stickers from the Et Cetera collection.  The fonts are the same, but the size is a bit different so it worked perfectly.

Tip:
The die cut is from the Noteworthy.  Because it is the same on both sides, I just folded it in half so that the other side would look nice, too!
I made a hole through the album page to attach the brad.  You will see on the other side that I cover the hole with a bow.

Tip:
You can see the Noteworthy behind the wreath and see how the bow covers up the hole and the prongs on the brad.

Tip:
To attach the twine, just pull up on the heart part of the layered chipboard, tie the twine and use a touch of glue to secure the heart back in place.

Tip:
Why not use lots of different alphabets to tell part of the story?  I used Blitzen and Welcome Home stickers.  I also used Blitzen Rub-ons and a couple of misc. rub-ons, too.

Tip:
Tie on little extras to the bottoms of bows.  Here I used a little Christmas heart and in other places, I used jingle bells.

 Tip:
Don't forget to finish it off!  For the backside, I just used a bit more trim and ribbon and added the date. It's a nice way to add the date or any other little details that you might not have put inside.

Handmade Christmas Ornaments

Hello! This is Patti and today I have some handmade Christmas ornaments to share with you.  My favorite collection this holiday season is Bo Bunny's Blitzen line.  I love the colors and knew it would be perfect for the stitched and stuffed distressed paper ornaments I had in mind.  I've made 3 examples that are a breeze to make and can be done in very little time.

BO BUNNY SUPPLY LIST:
Patterned Paper: Turtle Doves, Stripe, Blitzen and Sentiment/ BLITZEN; Winter Joy (brown)/WINTER JOY
Cardstock: Flourish/Orange Citrus
Buttons: BLITZEN
Jewels: BLITZEN
Chipboard: Layered Chipboard/BLITZEN

INSTRUCTIONS:
1. Create or find an ornament shape to use as your template.  You can also use large die cuts if you have them.  Stick with simple shapes (that are about 4" - 6" high) as they'll be easier to stitch and stuff.  I already had these templates (bird, snowman and tree) on hand that were ideal for these paper ornaments.  With a pencil, trace and cut 2 of each of the shapes from Bo Bunny patterned paper.

  • 2 triangles and 2 trunk shapes
  • 2 bird bodies and 2 wings
  • 2 snowman shapes
 2.  Ink the edges and distress, if you like.  To further distress my shapes, I also sprayed them lightly with water and carefully crinkled them.  Be careful - the paper tends to be very fragile while it's wet.  Then I flattened them out a bit and dried them with a heat gun.

3.  Once the paper shapes are completely dry prepare them to be stitched together.  This is a good time to attach a ribbon or string to hang the ornament.  Simply adhere it to the top back side of the front shape with a bit of adhesive.  It will be further secured once you stitch the ornament.  For the tree, stitch around the trunk leaving the top of the trunk open.  Add a very small amount of polyfil and with a little bit of adhesive attach it to the bottom back side of the front tree shape - again, it will be more secure once you stitch the tree ornment.

4.  Next, align the front and back pieces of your ornament - with wrong sides facing in.  Determine where you can leave a 2" - 3" opening on the ornament for easy stuffing and begin stitching around the shape - stitch 1/8" from the edge.  Also, be sure to backstitch a little bit to prevent it from coming undone later as you stuff.

TIP: Change out your regular needle used for sewing fabric and dedicate a needle to paper sewing.  I switch them as needed.

5.  Before adding any stuffing, this is the time to add any details that would be difficult to add later - hand drawn details, rub-ons, etc.  I added the snowman's face  - a bit of blush with a cotton swab, and the eyes and mouth were added using the end of a paint brush dipped in black acrylic paint.  I also glued on the cardstock nose and punched heart with liquid glue.

6.  Add small amounts of polyfil or other stuffing to the ornaments.  Be sure not to over stuff as it will make it difficult to stitch.  Stitch the opening closed and tie off the ends at the back of the ornament.

7.  Attach the wing to the front side of the bird with a strong adhesive.  Then adhere any additional embellishments or accents to complete the ornaments and they're ready to enjoy!

Other suggested shapes: gingerbread men, stockings, stars and hearts.

Thanks so much for stopping by!  I hope you've enjoyed today's tutorial and that you too will be inspired to create a few handmade ornaments this season.
