Stamping Stamping Stamping

I'm going to chat about one thing and then we are getting to today's AWESOME post.
I'm on sensory overload this morning...

I came into the office to be welcomed by the Blog Class Project for November.
AAAAAAHHHHHHHHH!!!!!!  You are going to DIE! It's so stinking adorable!
Ha Ha Ha... now you have to wait until I get pictures of it to see it....
stay tuned.

Then, as if that weren't enough, I saw today's stamping layouts and can I just say
WOWZA!!!!!  So incredible!!!
The girls have given you tips and tutorials so you can recreate stamping sensations of your own!

You'll want to pin this post so you can go back to it over and over!

Tip: On this layout, I've used a simple technique which is called the "Resist Stamping". On my layout, I've used some white gesso to stamp the flowers, leaves and the big dragonflies around the photograph. The stamped images will have some textures to it and it is a resist against water based mediums. I've later, misted some water based inks on areas surrounding the stamped images. Before the inks dry, simply just use a wet wipe to lightly dab up the water based inks on the stamped images.

I also used the new script stamp from Snow Mountain as a background stamp and on the BB bloom to change up the design a little.
I used the watercolor washed looking side of some BB Chiffon Dot cardstock as the base of my layout and combined some older and newer Bo Bunny flourish stamps to create a border. I stamped with a clear embossing stamp and then added some clear embossing powder and heat set it (above).
Once I finished doing all the edge stamping and heat embossing, I used some distress ink and working from the outside in, added ink fading it as I worked in. (I used Tim Holtz Victorian Rose and Frayed Burlap). The embossed/stamped area's resist the ink and only the paper part takes the ink, in this way you create the 'resist' design.
The background looked like this before I began the rest of my page design (above)
I then figured out my photo placement and added the tear design (above) and some more
Bo Bunny stamps that would surround my photo and did a little more
stamping/heat embossing/inking to the page.

I used the Lovestamp - stamp to create my own pattern on top of the pattern. I stamped and embossed randomly over my background and then cut out the insides from within the stamps, likes frames or windows and then adding other pieces of patterned paper from the back.

I also stamped with a script stamp into my gesso.. It gives a nice texture to the gesso when it dries and you can see hints of text in there.. Of course when doing that my stamp got all white so instead of cleaning it all off I stamped a few times with it aswell.

Designer Tips: Adding clusters of embellishments gives your project dimension and depth. For this card I used patterned paper to create several of my embellishments, I popped them up with foam squares to add the feeling of pumpkins sitting in a patch piled upon on another. Using patterned paper is a great way to create coordinating embellishments!

Tips: Keep your supplies needed down by taking advantage of both sides and the pieces that are left over after you build your card. The Apple Cider Dot was used for the top layer of the card, the tiny punched flower centers and I punched the leaves from it, too. The leaves are the opposite side of the same paper.
Also, take advantage of the packaged embellishments. Brads go a long way and I seldom use an entire package for one project. Think about using the smaller ones on smaller projects, like cards, and the bigger ones for layouts or projects where you need more impact.
Supplies Used:
Patterned Paper: Apple Cider Dot and Apple Cider Cut Outs
Double Dot: Chocolate Dot
Brads: Apple Cider
Petals: Apple Cider
Ribbon: Double Dot Chocolate

Don't you just love today's cards! They kinda make me wanna rake leaves and
jump in the pile!  Create your fall cards and link us to them below..
We can't wait to see what you come up with.

Distressing

Today we have a layout made by Mahlin Wiggur.
I love that she used the Ocean Vintage Double Dot,
It makes her layout POP!!

SPEED
Mahlin Wiggur
The quote on the layout translate to:
" As long as you have your training wheels you fly away with such speed. "
 Designer tip:
"I like edge distressing and layering my papers and I don´t worry especially if I get the paper torn.
I just make it a part of the distressing. I also like to fold and crumple the edges a bit extra for
that little extra dimension.
I use both mist (which i splash onto my layout with the nozzle, tapping it firmly) and gesso. A great thing is that you can distress your gesso by wiping it carefully with a baby wipe."
Supplies:
Patterned Paper:  Stripe, Dot, Bounty, Afternoon/Apple Cider
Double Dot Paper: Ocean Vintage
Petals:  Apple Cider
Trinkets: Apple Cider
Jewels: Apple Cider
Combo Sticker: Little Miss

Isn't this layout fun!!  I bought some Gesso and have played with it a little
in an art journal, but haven't used it on a layout yet.  I think Mahlin has
inspired me to try it...  How about you guys?

Mixed Media on Layouts

I can't even stand how excited I am about today's post!
Mahlin and Irene really ROCK this style!

 Road Ahead
by: Irene Tan
 Irene says:
"On this layout, I've tried to duplicate the bricks background in the photograph on to the layout to create a scene layout. To create it, I've first apply some molding paste onto the layout and while it is still wet, I've used the negative of a chipboard brick piece to create the brick impressions on the paste. To add more interesting element to it, I've also added some pieces of the actual chipboard bricks on it. Then, I've misted it with a few layers of paints to get the color I want.

If you look at the layout closely, you will see that I'm kind of dimensional in the photograph. I've actually printed two pieces of the same photograph. I've adhered one of it to the layout and the second piece, I've cut myself out from it. Then, I used some pop dots to adhere it directly on top of the same image to create some dimension to that image.

Hope you all find these tips useful!"

 Malin says:
"I worked with a lot of layers both on my background but also on my petals. But first, the background. I chose a patterned paper with lots of color but I decided to tone it down a bit by adding some gesso. I had a piece of netting to create a pattern when adding my gesso with a brayer. If you use a heatgun to dry your gesso it will pop up a bit more when the heat is high and give an extra dimension to your pattern. I also added 4 layers of different colors of mist, 3 shades of pink and one brown.. Finishing of with a final layer of gesso but this time carefully wiped of a bit with a baby wipe.

The petals are covered in a layer of transparent glitter mist, white stain, crackle paint in metallic colors and some stains again. I used the transparent layer to add moisture to my petals, being able to shape them a bit before adding more heavy paint but be careful so they don´t get torn while wet."
Bo Bunny Supplies:
Patterned Paper: Jaquoya, Little Miss/Little Miss;
Stickers: Little miss Combo Stickers
Trinkets: Hello Sunshine, Little Miss
Petals: Hello Sunshine, Little Miss, Camp-A-lot

I'm really wanting to bust out some gesso, wipes, molding paste and sprays...
How about you guys?
Please, please share your creations with us on facebook if you play with mixed media.... I 'm so intrigued.

Translation: October 2010. I promised to bake my amazingly great chocolate cake and you promised to wear your old gymnastics suit. We had lots of laughs.
She says: "I think most of my time creating is spent on the backgrounds. I tend to add several layers of different mediums. Gesso, mists, gesso again and distress stains.. My style is
not vintage or shabby, nor is it just colorful. My style is mixed
so I almost always mix up different collections. This time I
took both Little miss, which is soft and pretty and mixes it
up with Hello Sunshine, which is more bright and colorful.
This is me in a nutshell =)"

Field Trip Friday

Who remembers what field trip Friday is???
In case you forgot, I'll remind you...
This is when the girls think outside that proverbial box
and meander into unknown territory.

Check it out:

Happy Girls
by: Sarah Eclavea
Sarah says: "One thing I never do is stamp! So for this field trip Friday I got out my stamps. I stamped a hexagon border around the cream paper directly on my layout. I also stamped the birdcage and birds on paper and cut them out to adhere on my layout."

Patterned Paper: Brenna, Allie, Dorothy, Gracie, Cut outs/ Little Miss
Stickers: 12x12 Combo Sticker, Dimensional Stickers, Sweet Girl/ Little Miss
Stamps: Hello Sunshine and Little Miss

Cardstock: Double Dot in Aquamarine Dot and Orange Citrus Dot
Clearstamps: Camp-A-Lot

(she says "and my son wanted to make a card of his own..)
 SO ADORABLE!!!

Beach Sign
by: Julie Tucker-Wolek
Julie says: "I love the concept of Field Trip Friday! A year ago, you could have told me to make a card, and I would have laughed at you! I was NOT a card maker! Couldn't fathom working on something that small! lol! Now, I make cards and everything else in between. When I thought about this challenge, I thought, what haven't I done? What will stretch my artistic side? And the answer came pretty easily, make something altered with a wood base! I have walked through local craft stores, always admiring the bare wood home decor items, but NEVER bought one! I never could get the nerve to do one! I can alter ANYTHING, but these items always evaded me. So I decided to buy TWO items for this challenge from my craft store and alter them with the beautiful Bo Bunny papers!"
Supplies used:
Paper: Hello Sunshine Breezy, stripe, 6x6
Jewels: Hello Sunshine
Petals: Hello Sunshine
Stickers: Hello Sunshine dimensional
Buttons: Hello Sunshine

Designer Tip: When altering wood items, I suggest painting them first! That way any items you don't cover in paper will still have color that will work with your theme!

Welcome Oar
by: Julie Tucker-Wolek

"Next, I have a wooden oar I bought and used the ever FUN Camp-A-Lot papers on! This was so much fun to make! I painted it yellow, and then found out that Bo Bunny's rub-ons work PERFECTLY on wood!!"
 Designer Tip:
Using rub-ons on wood is even easier than paper! If the wood is smooth (and mine was, even before painting it), then just hold the rub-ons just like you do for paper and rub them on! Easy peasy and they look awesome on the wood!
Supplies:
Paper: Camp-A-Lot Fireflies, in the woods, leaves 6x6 pad
Rub ons: Camp-a-lot

Awesome projects right???  Now it's your turn to do something you would not normally do.
