Mixed Media Tutorial With Beach Therapy!

Hello Everyone

It's Denise here today with a tutorial, using Under the Sea stencil and the Beach Therapy Collection.

I started off with some watercolour paper, some gel paste and Under the Sea stencil.

I did not make a solid block of stenciling.  I just narrowed the stenciling, at either ends of the page.

I did 2 sets of stencilling, diagonally across from each other and then dried these off.  I then did the other 2 sets.

Once all the stenciling was done, I allowed this to dry thoroughly.

I then took some sky blue acrylic paint and watered it down with water. Using a spray bottle, I sprayed the stenciling thoroughly before applying the watered down paint.

Just add small drops of acrylic paint at a time and keep spraying water into the drops, so that the paint spreads out and seeps into the paper. You can pick up your page to direct the flow of water and paint.  Keep some paper towels handy to mop up an excess and dab at the little water pools.

I then also added some drops of Frost Glimmer Spray and a little bit of white spray.  I used the white to tone down some of the areas.  This was then all allowed to dry. Below is the result,

Here is a closer look.

To emphasis the stenciling a little more I took some navy ink on a sponge pad and rubbed it over the stenciling.

I cut up some blocks of patterned paper, as per the photo below and cut a strip of vellum.

I stuck these down onto the background.

I then added some random stamping with some blue and aqua pigment inks.

I added some dry wall tape for texture.

Next was to add the wood photo film strip and some cotton.  Admittedly, I later removed the cotton! But that's the beauty of creating...one can add and remove elements.

I then added all the other little bits and my photo.  I always try and stick elements down, so that they are just stuck in the middle.  This then allows me to tuck layers etc. underneath these.

I added some more random stamping around the page and some chevron stamping at the ends of my patterned papers.

Lastly, I used a pen brown koki pen to outline some of the elements.  Then I covered up my photo and the main elements and used some aqua and green acrylic paint and a paintbrush to splatter all over the page.

  2. A gorgeous, summery, carefree page Denise. Just like the weather we are having here at the moment. It was fun to watch your page evolve as you achieved that super watercolour background. Thanks for the inspiration :D
