If you had to guess the favorite trend of our designers this week what would it be?

If you guessed doilies you are right! Doilies were used in a variety of ways this week! Cards, Layouts, Misc Me and today in home decor projects!

BoBunny has fabulous doilies in 3 different sizes that can be used for all sorts of projects! If you haven't tried them yet you ought to!

Sew Cute by Lynn Shokoples

There are many trends for the New Year in scrapbooking. I chose to highlight some of my favorites in this project, vellum, wooden embellishments and doilies. I have all my sewing supplies in a plastic makeup bag, so I thought it was time to put them into something fun to keep in my studio. I layered the doilies on the front with some of the wooden butterflies from the Kraft collection along with a few wooden spools of thread which I covered with the circles from the patterned paper. I also glued some of the Burlap Pleated Lace on the lid of the box to hold some stick pins.

I couldn't resist decorating the inside of my sewing box. I used the patterned paper along with a few sheets of vellum to make the flowers. I thought I should add my favorite saying for when I am quilting "Measure Twice, Cut Once" as a reminder.

There are always new trends in the Papercrafting world and some I skip right over and others are with me for a long time. Doilies happen to be a particular favourite of mine and I have incorporated them into lots of my creations. For this project they are the main focus and I have used them in a couple of different ways.

Firstly I used them to decoupage this plain wooden frame, I started by using gesso all over the frame, then glued pieces of them all around the edges, I used a further coat of gesso and then dry brushed some black paint to highlight the patterns. Finally I sprayed some gold mist to give it an aged look.

You can paint or spray the doilies (taking care when they are wet that you don't break them), I chose to do both here and I then used the sprayed ones as a mat for my silhouettes and the painted ones I tucked around the inside edges of my frame. A fairly simple project with a striking result don't you think?
