Ribbon flower fun...

I love adding dimension and hand made elements to my projects.

I've been meaning to attempt a ribbon flower for awhile. The Bo Bunny double dot ribbon is perfect for this since the pattern in on both sides. :)

Here's the finished card complete with ribbon flowers & curly tendrils!

Here's what you'll need to make your own flower (along with some glue, hot glue works great).

Begin with a 12" or so piece of ribbon and fold the end at a 90 degree angle. This is your flower center.

I decided to use a piece of cardstock as a base. It makes it easier to work with the ribbon and gives you a solid base to adhere the flower down with once finished. Put a dab of glue in the center of the circle and adhere down your 90 degree angle piece. Begin curling the ribbon around to make a center.

Now it's time to make "petals". To do this half the ribbon between your thumb and index finger and start folding and twisting the ribbon around the center. Keep doing this until the flower is the desired size. Adhere petals down as needed to keep them in place. Once you get to the end just tuck it under a petal to hide.

When finished cut out your flower. For the tendrils cut a thin strip from green paper and twist around a pencil.

How easy & fun is that!!

Supplies used:

Love Bandit papers (Tweetheart), Persuasion papers (Blooms, Love Notes, Dot), Wild Berry dot cardstock, 3/8" wild berry double dot ribbon, 5/8" Almond double dot ribbon.

Tip: To mail a bulky card just place in a padded envelope and add a little extra postage. :)

Love is Blooming...

With Valentine's Day around the corner, I'm getting a head start on some hand-made cards for friends and family. And for me, card making is the perfect time to play around with paper techniques. I remember this particular idea from years ago and thought it'd be fun to try it again with Bo Bunny's adorable Love Bandit collection. It's a simple paper technique that works perfectly with any of the double sided papers Bo Bunny offers.

I started by cutting a piece of two-sided patterned paper to cover the front of my card. I used a white pen to trace circles from a template. I also drew cross marks that divided each circle into 8 pie shaped pieces and cut over the lines with a craft knife. Then I folded back each triangle to reveal the pink patterned paper from the back. It helps to add a bit of adhesive to the back of each petal to keep them laying flat.



Next, I cut another piece of contrasting paper to the same size as the card front and adhered it to the back so that it showed through the open circles. I then machine stitched around each opening. I punched circles and adhered them inside the opening slightly off center. Then, I punched 3 more circles and embellished them with buttons and an iCandy Brad. I added adhesive foam to the back of these circles and layered them on top of the other circles for dimension. And finally, I added a few leaves and used the Combo Stickers alphas to help create the sentiment.



So pull out those Bo Bunny papers, look back at techniques you've tried in the past and give them a whirl again! You might be surprised at how the these beautiful paper designs and embellishments can give these not-so-new ideas a fresh look!

Tips:
-Space circles 3/4" - 1" apart when creating flowers to avoid too much overlap with the flower petals.

Valentine Village with Stamping

With Christmas over, are you finding yourself missing those holiday decorations?

I know I have been, and am thinking about decorating my home with Valentine themed items. I have been thinking about this a lot, so I decided to make a village of little houses. Look at the fun way I added these cute Love Birds to my village homes decoration.

First, I have to tell you , I created the homes out of spare chipboard that I had. You know the stuff you get with packs of paper? that stuff. You could also use cereal boxes or milk cartons as well.

What I did was to make two matching sides for each house. One side was peaked at the top ( imagine a triangle sitting on top of a rectangle), the other side is straight across. It doesn't matter about the size, you can create big ones or teeny ones, it's all up to you. Mine are around 10" high for the tallest, and about 5" high for the shortest. The roof is a piece of chipboard I scored down the middle- then adhered to the peaked and straight sides of the top of the house.



To keep them together- I scored scrap papers the length of the house, and glued the two sides of the score into each corner( on the inside of the corners), this keeps the houses together. First though, take the time to adhere your papers to the outside of the house, this make things much easier to cover.

As you can see, I have added lots of little touches to each house. I have cut out some of the Love Bandit plaques and added them to the fronts, then built layers over them. I stamped this house with the Persuasion bracket spot stamp, cut it out and then layered a journal spot over top.

To stamp the birds, I used the Love Birds stamp, stamping twice, then cutting out the bird face and adding foam tape to the back, before layering the face onto the bird. I also used the hearts and stamped them, then cut them out and foam taped the back before I layered them onto the houses.

I love how the stamped birds make the houses look like a home, as if they are also bird houses.

I have added in flowers, twine, buttons, punched shapes, and some berry stems in white. There is a little bit of corrugated paper that I made into a roof for the smaller house.

I also have been very liberal with a clear crystal glitter, it looks like sugaring and I bought this stuff in a good sized bottle at the craft store. Christmas may be all packed up, but all that glitters is not gone in our home.


You can see, I glittered the roof, the berry stems, the stamped hearts, the buttons and the bottoms of the houses to look frosty, like there might still be snow on the ground.

Make a Valentine's Banner

Hello there! Kristen here with a great banner idea. Sure- Valentine's Day is coming up soon and we can create colorful creations to match our decor. I sure do love this Love Bandit line, and the adorable images just made the perfect accents on my pendants that make up the whole banner.


First, I cut out triangles with patterned paper, adding in scallop edged corrugated paper for dimension and texture around the edges.

Then I layered on lots of beautiful Bobunny Love Bandit papers, still going with a triangle shape.

I punched holes in the sides of each pendant to hang, then tied twine bows to hold them together. On each twine bow I tied two colorful double dot ribbons.

I used Bobunny letters to create the word SWEET and accented the banner with cutout images, buttons and Icandy bling.

I do suggest you create one of these on your own, this took me less then 3 hours to create and was so much fun! You can add as much or as little to your design as you please, and you will come up with a gorgeous and creative personalized banner.

Dee's Room Wall Hanging

Do you wanna make a really cute wall hanging for your sweet little girl's room or door?

This wall hanging is so easy to make!!

1. Using a BoBunny Kitchen Spice Jasmine Die Cut as a template, trace the flower shape onto the reverse side of Flamingo Dot Double Dot Cardstock with a pencil. Cut out shape.

2. Using a circle cutter (or use a bowl or anything round for a template) cut a circle (6-1/2") from Kiwi Dot Double Dot Cardstock.

3. Stitch circle onto flower. (I used brown thread)

4. Cut out some cute images from the Love Bandit Cut Outs sheet. Mount to the project using foam dots.

5. Adhere Chipboard Alpha letters.

6. Mount flowers (Love Bandit Flowers) with fun glittery brads (Cuckoo iCandy Brads).

7. Using a punch, create the leaves from Kiwi Dot Double Dot Cardstock.

Mount leaves as shown.
8. Punch holes on either side up near the top. Thread some Mint Double Dot ribbon through, tie a knot and trim to finish your project!

So cute! And really fun and easy to create!

(And I so can't resist the sweet little faces on these guys!!)
