Stickable Stencil Tutorial!

Stencils and mixed media are all the rage at the moment.  They're not something I find easy!  I think because Im such a neat freak and it means getting all messy lol.  But sometimes you know less is more! So I thought I would show you a simple way to use your stencils and glimmer sprays that still looks effective.

So, first of all gather all your supplies - gesso to help prime the canvas and help the sprays to 'stick' to the canvas, texture paste, a co-ordinating colour range of sprays and your favourite stencil - Im using the large strip and one of the doilies from the Lace Stencil set.

To add a bit of bang to my texture paste I've mixed it with some Mint Glimmer Spray until I got the colour I was looking for.  Place the stencil where you want to it go, and apply the paste over the design.  At this point you can air dry it but if you're like my and impatient ;) use your heat gun.

Once it was dry I place my stencil down again and applied more texture paste.  The best bit? those stencil don't move once you put them down so there's no messy bits of 'smooched' design! :)

When I apply texture to a stencil I use spatula to mix it and remove it from the container, and an old credit card to apply the paste, scrapping it down the canvas, always going in one direction.

So this is what it looks like once you've lifted the stencil off - your starting point to go crazy with your composition :)

When it was completely dry I randomly sprayed with Tutu and Mint, and began adding in some beautiful BoBunny blossoms - I love the bright rainbow effect its created!!  To add to the depth of the design I added left over buttons and chipboard banners from a mixture of collections - they didn't need to be from the same collection because this was all about colour not theme :) and its a great way to use scraps!

Designer Tip:  Add your random stamping and spray splotches after you have placed your flowers and embellishments down, that way, they end up exactly where you want them and there's no mistake to cover up!
