Beautiful Dreamer Cards!

Beautiful Dreamer cards by Keri Babbitt

This card trio uses the soft, nostalgic colors of the Beautiful Dreamer collection, with a big, bold pop of Black Gesso.
For the first card, I layered a silver glitter paste circle underneath the black gesso image.  This is a quick and easy way to add a special handmade touch to a simple card.

For the second card, I dry-brushed the gesso over the background stencil, and then layered pearlescents and glitter paste on top to soften it up and give the card a shimmery sheen.

For the third card, I made feather accents with gesso, pearlescents, and vellum.  The gesso naturally curls the vellum slightly, which is perfect for these delicate feathers.

Birthday Brights!

The new You're Invited party collection from BoBunny is just full of happy, bold, festive fun!  For today's party project, I created garlands, gift wrap, invites, and favors...using only the You're Invited papers and sticker sheet.  Here's a look:

Gold, fuchsia, black, and seafoam - this palette is bright, happy, and ready to party.  I started by cutting out the 2-inch square party images on the Bash paper, then layered those squares with crepe paper, stickers, and doilies.

Now time for some glittery crafting!  I cut apart the straws on the Fun paper, and then dipped each straw straight into some BoBunny glitter paste.  Fun, easy, and I love the look:

Invites were easy with the 3-inch squares from the Bash paper, layered with Shindig:

I created customized gift wrap and party favors by dressing up some plain-Jane dollar items with more paper, stickers, and doilies.  This is an easy way to make your dollar stretch while creating some one-of-a-kind items for your guests.

Misc Me & Boardwalk!

With hundreds of beach photos to scrap, the new Boardwalk collection from BoBunny is right up my alley!  For this month's tutorial, I'm focusing on mats and frames.  As we begin, here's a look at a doubled-matted design for my 12x12 album cover:

Happy Place by Keri Babbitt

Here's a little peek into my method for cutting mats and frames.

First, using a straight-edge and exacto blade, I cut the center out of the mini-squares paper:

Next, measuring 1/4" from the inside of the frame, I cut a smaller, 7 1/2" mat, to layer underneath.  Cutting with a straight-edge and exacto blade gives me more precise control, so I can make the corners and edges clean and sharp.

Mats and frames are a great way to add interest without adding bulk.  To finish off my nautical album cover, I layered the center with some Noteworthy diecuts and small, flat brads.

For my two-page spread, I incorporated this frame idea in a smaller size, this time using foam adhesive to add dimension.  I cut a 4x6" piece of card stock, and then used the same technique above, to cut a 3/8" thick frame.

I love the look of little clusters of tucked-in embellishments, and the new layered die cut oars were perfect photo captions.

And here's a look at my two-page spread in its entirety.  Since this is the first two-page spread in this new album, I created a full-page traditional layout for the left side, and filled in a pocket-page for the right-side page.

Mixed Media & Wood Shapes....WOW!

Hello All!  For this month's project, I am featuring the BoBunny Elegant Wood Shapes.  These gorgeous shapes are indeed elegant, featuring flowers, flourishes, and frames.  They are a perfect match for the Garden Journal collection.

To start, here is a look at how I decorated my 12x12 Misc Me Kraft binder:

At First Sight by Keri Babbitt

For my smaller binders and mini-albums, I like to add lots of dimensional layers, but since I store my 12x12 albums in a row on a shelf, I like the cover embellishments to be flat layers.  Here, I created a custom background with stamps, glimmer spray, pearlescents, and ink.  The rub-ons and stencils add interest and beauty, but without the bulk.

The spine of the album, however, was a great place to add a wood label frame, that will show up prettily, while the album is shelved:

This effect is a combination of Island Mist Pearlescents, over sprayed with Silver glimmer spray and then blotted.

And now, here's a look at my 2-page spread:

I used the Garden Journal Misc Me contents pack, and then embellished with chipboard, die cuts, and of course more wood shapes.

The Elegant wood shapes were given a Shabby Chic makeover, with some Island Mist Pearlescents, Silver Glimmer Spray, and Blush Glitter Paste.  The Elegant frames are the perfect little spot to showcase another small embellishment inside.

For this month's Misc Me project, I created a fun mix of custom embellishments, using patterned paper from the BoBunny #ForeverYoung collection, along with the 3D foam squares mix pack from Scrapbook Adhesives by 3L.  The mix pack is great for creating custom embellishments both large and small, since both sizes come in one package!

I was also able to easily make my own stickers, by using the adhesive sheets with the patterned paper, before punching out my donut shapes.  What a quick & efficient way to customize each pocket of my 2-page spread!

Alpha Stickers & Mixed Media!

Hello friends! I love the new Double Dot Alpha Stickers - both the size and the colors are so versatile for all types of projects.  Today I am sharing some mixed media projects, showcasing the Tuxedo alpha stickers & the new Carnival collection.

One of my favorite ways to unwind and express myself creatively is Art Journaling.  It is a great way to collect favorite quotes or thoughts, and to experiment with various mixed media techniques.  Here is the page I created for today, with one of my favorite song lyrics:

Just to Love by Keri Babbitt

The bold black Tuxedo alpha stickers create the focal point on the left side, with a long song lyric quote.  I love how the words pop off the layered background.

I love the color combination of pinks & blues, and I've explored this palette here, with glimmer spray, ink, pearlescents, and glitter pastes in blue/pink/gold hues.

The different art mediums soak into the vintage journal paper in different ways, and it is fun to watch them as they dry and blend.  I played around with techniques like dripping, blotting, brushing, and masking on this page.

Along with art mediums, I layered with thin accents, like washi tape, vellum, and Noteworthy diecuts.  All of these products come together in an interesting way when experimenting in the freestyle process of art journaling.

Another favorite for me is creating ATC's with little tidbits and leftovers after an art journal project.  Here is a simple gold-themed ATC I created with art journal scraps:

'Full Rainbow' Misc Me!

For this month's Misc Me project, I worked with the new Butterflies Stickable Stencils, and the #ForeverYoung collection.  What a gorgeous combo!  With the butterfly stencil, I went "Full Rainbow" - take a look:

You Are Here by Keri Babbitt

On the first page, I paired my six 3x4" photos with a middle strip of fun custom accents.

Here's a close-up of the over-the-top rainbow butterflies.  To create them, I first outlined all the stencil detail with a gold pen. Next, I quickly layered small amounts of Pearlescents and glitter paste, and then slid my large palette knife to the side, so the horizontal color layers would stay unmixed.  I couldn't be happier with the bright and bold look.

On the second page, I used a 12x12" paper to stencil butterflies across, before I cut it into four squares for the page protector pockets.

The gold glimmer spray adds a great shimmer to the entire page, and I love the subtle effect of the butterflies flying across the page.

It's All About the Details!

Pinterest is a treasure-trove of visual eye candy, so this month, my Misc Me layout is a pinterest-inspired creation.

Solstice by Keri Babbitt
Solstice Misc Me by Keri Babbitt using Pearlescents Tutorial

I was inspired by the cascading silver circles in this Pinterest image:

I decided to get this ethereal look with a fun new technique - using BoBunny art mediums on the outside of my page protectors!  Below is a tutorial to achieve this fun look on your own project.

This particular 2-page spread is a bit unique.  Rather than left and right facing pages, the layout uses both sides of the page protector, for a see-through pocket effect.  To get this type of page started, first I chose photos for both sides of the page protector, and then adhered them to each other and put them in their correct pockets.  Then, I started on the mixed media technique.

Solstice Misc Me by Keri Babbitt using Pearlescents Tutorial

I cut an 11.5" circle out of cardstock, and used it to mask off each corner of the page protector, one at a time.
Solstice Misc Me by Keri Babbitt using Pearlescents Tutorial

I used Sugar Pearlescents to fill in the stencil, then flattened out the paste evenly and scraped off the excess.

Solstice Misc Me by Keri Babbitt using Pearlescents Tutorial

The result is a creamy look that is bold and fun against the dark photos.

Solstice Misc Me by Keri Babbitt using Pearlescents Tutorial

After repeating this process for all eight corners (Do four corners, let dry, then flip over and repeat process for four remaining corners), I added more stenciling onto the middle pockets of the page protector.

Solstice Misc Me by Keri Babbitt using Pearlescents Tutorial

To get a multi-tonal effect, I placed the two pearlescent colors in different spots on the stencil, and then spread glitter paste over the whole thing.

The less you work the colors with the spreader, the more color variation the final look will have.

Solstice Misc Me by Keri Babbitt using Pearlescents Tutorial

Gorgeous!  Note: the glitter paste will dry clear, giving a more icy, sparkly look.  If you want this opaque white look to stay, you can get this effect by swapping the glitter paste for modeling paste, or sugar pearlescents.

After everything was dry, I added my finishing touches.  If you are adding glitter, sequins, or confetti to your pockets, make sure to seal them shut with a sewing machine or double-sided tape.  Here is the final result:

I love the peek-a-boo feature of this page, and the circle of dots around each photo edge creates a fun shaping to the layout.  See-through elements are great for winter/snow/ice themes, like this page about us spreading bird seed around our yard on Winter Solstice.
